Child Check Systems |
All too often we hear news stories of children accidentally left alone on a school bus after the driver has completed his or her route. Recriminations, bad publicity, lost jobs and lawsuits are frequently the result of this all-too-human oversight. To help eliminate the problem Child Check-Mate Systems, Inc. has developed the Child Check-Mate, a well-constructed, affordable and easily installed solution.
Designed by drivers for drivers, the Child-Check Mate places minimal demands on the driver. It self-activates only after the first child boards the bus. Upon completion of his or her route, the driver walks to the rear of the bus, performing a visual sweep for sleeping children or lost articles. At the rear, the driver deactivates the device. Audible alarms are triggered only if the driver leaves the bus without completing this essential sweep.
Kingmor Supply can furnish and install Child Check-Mate devices on your buses and provide training for your operator staff. Over 1200 school districts nationwide use the Child Check-Mate. Shouldn't yours?

Video Surveillance Systems |
Video Surveillance Systems (VSS) are based on a recording video camera that monitors a bus interior and the behavior of passengers. When an incident that may require disciplinary action occurs, the camera records the events leading to the incident, the incident itself, and its aftermath and resolution.
The ideal surveillance configuration has a full VSS installed in each bus. A well-designed system that supports look-alike shells or decoys, however, can provide nearly the same effectiveness at a much lower cost because neither passengers nor the driver can determine, by visual inspection, whether an installation is "live", i.e., actively recording. Installing shells in all buses and moving a smaller number of recording packages among the buses as needs dictate is a viable, effective, and economical alternative. Based on its experience, Kingmor Supply can recommend the minimum number of recorders needed based on your fleet size and historical record of "troublesome" routes.
The merits and benefits of either approach include the following:
- The VSS gives unbiased views and audio of actions occurring before, during, and after incidents. This eliminates conflicting accounts of events and self-serving recollections. Moreover, when viewed by supervisors, principals and parents, VSS recordings often result in agreement among interested parties on establishment of blame and the appropriateness of disciplinary actions.
- Allegations of targeted monitoring of groups based on their age, race or economic status are less likely to be made and easier to dismiss when housings are installed on all buses.
- The driver is able to focus more attention on the road and driving conditions because the need to monitor passenger behavior by frequently checking the interior mirrors is minimized.
- A reduction in disciplinary referrals by drivers is virtually assured. Once one or two chronic troublemakers are captured on tape and disciplined appropriately with minimal protest, the school "grapevine" quickly confers a "don't mess with me" status to all installed units, whether active or not.
Kingmor Supply represents Radio Engineering Industries, Inc. and its Bus-Watch video surveillance system. Bus-Watch consists of a camera (top) and a video cassette recorder (bottom). Both components are made for the rugged environment of a school bus. The recorder can log up to 8-hours of time-stamped video using standard VHS tapes which can viewed on any standard VCR. Systems are also available in a high-tech digital format.
The camera is generally mounted on the interior header of the bus behind the driver. The recorder, enclosed in a lockable metal case, is floor mounted, often under the driver's or front passenger's seat to facilitate connections to the camera.
Kingmor Supply also sells and services Robotics Technologies, Inc., Safety Vision, Seon and 247 Security, Inc. mobile video systems. Contact Kingmor today for a recommendation of which bus video monitoring system will best meet your needs and budget.
Fleets with extremely limited budgets but still needing VSS may opt for the Student Monitor Surveillance System-1 (SMS-1), designed, developed and patented by Kingmor Supply. The SMS-1 (right), is supplied as two parts: a small (6" x 6" x 9") lockable metal housing and a Quasar VHS-C camcorder which mounts inside the housing. The housing is installed in the interior header of the bus, protruding only 3 to 4 inches into the interior area. A single wire connecting the housing to the 12-volt bus power system is the only external connection required. By providing power, which controls operation of the camcorder, through the bus ignition circuit and/or a driver-operated switch, recording can be limited to times when the bus is actually operating or has passengers onboard.
The camcorder has up to two hours of recording capacity, and date and time stamps each recorded frame (the year portion of the date is often set to the bus number) for complete documentation. Recorded tapes are compatible with the standard VHS format and can be viewed, by using a low-cost adapter supplied with each camcorder, on any standard VCR.
